The band Rend Collective started from a ministry in Northern Ireland and now tours in the United States a few months each year. Rend Collective wants to perform music that makes people smile, while celebrating their faith. It’s hard to watch a YouTube video of the Northern Ireland band performing and not smile. With their bow ties and folk-indie look, their banjoes and string instruments, and their take on an Irish folk percussion instrument called a Jingling Johnny, their joy while performing can be infectious. That’s exactly how they want their faith to be seen – a celebration that lifts the spirit. Wwf In Your House Pc.

“We are a worship band,” Rend Collective member Ali Gilkeson said. “So, we write songs for church but also try to do it in a creative, fun way that people will enjoy.” Rend Collective – which features bandleader Gareth Gilkeson on drums and percussion; Chris Llewellyn on vocals, acoustic guitar and ukulele; Ali Gilkeson on keyboards and vocals; Patrick Thompson on electric guitar, banjo and various string instruments; and Steve Mitchell on bass guitar – will perform at the Dothan Civic Center on Feb. 28 as part of Chris Tomlin’s Love Ran Red tour. Tenth Avenue North will also perform.

The group started as a church movement created in 2001 by Gareth Gilkeson, Ali’s husband. It was geared to people in their 20s and 30s and was called Rend after two verses in the Bible – Isaiah 64:1 (“Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you!”) and Joel 2:13 (“Rend your heart and not your garments”). The group would gather in the small town of Bangor in Northern Ireland and sometimes sing songs by contemporary Christian artists like Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin. “It was more of a prayer meeting, actually, every week,” Ali Gilkeson said. “Really that time was just about trying to see God together and pursue what he had for our lives.” After about five years, Gareth Gilkeson and Chris Llewellyn felt “God was putting some songs on their hearts,” Ali said. They started a musical worship project that became known as the Rend Collective.

In 2010, the band released its first album, “Organic Family Hymnal.” They recorded an acoustic album, “Campfire,” live around a campfire on a beach near Bangor. They shot a music video on a fishing boat in the Irish Sea. They’ve even used children’s instruments on recordings.

When it was first suggested they tour in America, Ali said the group wasn’t sure they were ready for such a leap. So they prayed about it. Two weeks later, they received an email from Chris Tomlin inviting them to come on tour with him in 2011.
